History

Bromyard is an ancient town dating back to the Norman Conquest, and still has a church with many Norman features.

For centuries it was a thriving market town serving the surrounding countryside and villages and was very prosperous in those times which resulted in the many fine 16th to 18th century buildings that survive to this day in the town.

In more recent times it was and still is a centre of the hop growing industry with many acres growing hops which were often picked by incomers from South Wales or the Black Country who used their two weeks hop picking as their annual holiday.

These days Bromyard is also home to some prestigious manufacturing companies, arts and crafts businesses and a year long array of festivals featuring jazz, hops, folk music, steam engines and much more.
